“Orthodox or Fauxthodox?” — Dale Tuggy

In this presentation at Converge in 2025, Dale Tuggy explains how several influential scholars of the “early high christology club” have muddied the waters about “orthodoxy”. Far from being “early”, orthodoxy took 600 years to develop, squashing and replacing earlier christologies. These scholars (Bird, Hurtado, Wright, and Bauckham) obscure the 3 earliest views: dynamic monarchianism, modalistic monarchianism, and logos subordinationism, with the effect of anachronistically projecting trinitarianism back into the first three Christian centuries.
